A product story from Oronium

Doodh

Kerala's first digital platform for dairy farmers.

What it is

Doodh is a mobile app that brings transparency to the daily life of a dairy farmer. Instead of paper slips and manual monthly bills, farmers open the app to see every milk transaction, showing quantity, rate, and quality figures like SNF, CLR, and fat percentage, along with clear, society-style digital bills.

Built to work for real farmers in rural Kerala, it connects with the existing society software (both Ksheera and OpenLypsa) and works in Malayalam, with an audio mode for those who can't read.

  • Live milk transactions with quality and rate details
  • Expense and income tracking for feed, bank transfers, and deductions
  • Digital bills modelled on the familiar society format
  • Malayalam language and audio read-out
  • Notifications for payments and government schemes

The impact

The real proof came after we stopped pushing. For a full year we ran no ads, sent no reminders, and onboarded no new societies. We simply kept the app running for the farmers who had already chosen it. We expected usage to fade. It didn't.

  • 4,600 farmers active through the year
  • 850 to 900 open it every single day
  • 5.66 lakh app visits in the year
  • 123 visits per farmer about once every two to three days
  • 2,09,000 milk-bill checks roughly 106 per farmer
  • 1,24,000 daily milk updates opened, plus ~10,000 look-ups of older records
  • 26,000 uses of voice mode by around 1,500 farmers who prefer listening to reading
  • Nearly half of all farmers use the app in Malayalam

Most of these farmers are over fifty and were new to smartphones when we met them. The people everyone assumed couldn't adopt a digital product adopted it completely, all with zero marketing.
